What to check for frequent connection errors to the labs?

Symptoms: Your Lab keeps disconnecting or is running too slowly.

You may want to check the following in your environment before seeking help from the support team.

  • Are you using a WiFi or wired Internet connection
  • What OS are you using?
  • Are you using any antivirus or firewall?
  • Is there any VPN open?

  • A Browser supporting Canvas and WebSockets

  • Meet the minimum bandwidth requirements of 150 Kbps (we recommend multiplying this number by 3 so that you can be connected to several lab devices at once).

  • Running https://training.fortinet.com/mod/lab/test.php, including the speed test at the bottom.

Speed test will provide connection info between the user (you) and datacenter (your region selected), where your lab is running.

Choose your region (location) from the dropdown and click "Run".

  • Provide the results of this speed test in the ticket raised for the performance issue you may be experiencing

Please note that utilities such as http://speedtest.net will only report the speed between your computer and your internet service provider therefore is not the best measure of the speed between your computer and the lab.

Overall, we are expecting any student to use a wired internet connection rather than Wi-Fi, for stability reasons.

Also, you may want to disconnect from any running VPN or Firewall while you are going through your session.

If you have considered these suggestions but you are still experiencing the same issues, so then please liaise with us by opening a new ticket.
